10 Things To Look Forward To In Thor: Ragnarok
Thor vs Hulk
One of the coolest sequences in Marvel’s The Avengers was Thor vs Hulk. It also led to one of the funniest moments in the film thanks to Hulk’s hilarious cheap shot.
I think it’s safe to say the epic sequence set in The Grandmaster’s (Jeff Goldblum) coliseum will be incredible. Judging by what we’ve seen in the trailers, it’ll most likely cap off the first act in the film.
Hulk vs Thor II is almost here!
A New Style For Thor
It’s very obvious that director Taika Waititi has brought a unique style to Thor’s third solo adventure. The color and tone of the film clearly takes it’s cues from Marvel’s main cosmic franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy. Yet somehow, Waititi manages to give the film a unique palette of its own.
Thor: The Dark World is my least favorite Marvel film so I welcome the change of pace. Thor: Ragnarok looks every bit as fun and colorful as Guardians Vol 1 & 2.
A Winter Soldier Sized Twist?
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still my game changing champ thanks to that clever Hydra twist. That single twist changed the MCU as we know it and laid the foundation for so many themes in subsequent Marvel films. (It even saved Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 1 from becoming a total loss IMO)
Marvel mega producer Kevin Feige has promised similar game changing elements in Thor: Ragnarok:
“I think that we are finding ourselves as we complete Phase 3 and finish this 22-movie narrative that it’s working out that way. We did three Iron Man films, three Captain America films, three Thor films. Things change drastically in Ragnarok and then build directly into Infinity War.” (Kevin Feige, Toronto Sun)
Hela’va Good Villain
Cate Blanchett looks poised to become one of the most memorable villains in the MCU. The Goddess of Death may even factor into Infinity War as Thanos is very much obsessed with ‘Death’.
I’ll literally lose my mind if the post credit sequence features Thanos professing his love to Hela. That scene alone sets the entire tone for Infinity War!
Loki is a fascinating member of the MCU. In Ragnarok, we will see him team up with his brother again but for how long? How will Marvel track the journey from impersonating Odin to his role in Infinity War?
The Infinity War/Guardians Setup
If you haven’t caught a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ Infinity War trailer leak on the web, you’ve probably still read the descriptions. The trailer opens with Thor floating through space before crashing into the Guardians ship, the Milano.
Why was he flying through space? Is it set up in Infinity War or will we get an explanation in Ragnarok? Either way we know how Thor encounters the Guardians. We just need to know why!
The Final Infinity Stone Revealed?
The Space Stone – presumably in Odin’s vault/somewhere in Asgard
The Time Stone – protected by Doctor Strange on Earth.
The Mind Stone – embedded in Vision’s forehead
The Reality Stone – most likely in the possession of Taneleer Tivan (a.k.a. The Collector)
The Power Stone – protected by the Nova Corps on Xandar
The Soul Stone – ?
Odds are, Black Panther won’t contain information on the location of the Soul stone. I also doubt it will be set up in Infinity War with such a crowded plot/cast to begin with. That leaves Thor: Ragnarok as the prime outlet to reveal the final Infinity Stone.
Thor/Hulk vs Surtur
Surtur is a massive villain in the MCU. He most likely won’t show up until the film’s final moments but the small glimpse we got in the second trailer was amazing. How does he factor into the story? If he’s the big boss battle then where does Hela end up?
“Thor like raging fire…”
Thor’s relationship with Bruce Banner/Hulk is one of the funniest relationships in all of comic book movies. Not just the MCU. Pairing them together in a cosmic buddy comedy was a brilliant move. If the film is full of moments like the hilarious exchange at the end of this trailer, we’re all in for something special.
