15 HUGE Movies To Look Forward To In 2018
15. Bad Boys For Life
Bad Boys 1 & 2 are entertaining movies. I love them both to this day. It’s actually shocking it has taken so long for a third film to be greenlit. True, Michael Bay has been busy with the Transformers franchise and Will Smith is always busy but this film might be 10 years too late. I certainly hope not. The third team up between Smith and Martin Lawrence will be directed by Joe Carnahan.
14. Pacific Rim: Maelstrom
The original Pacific Rim was… Just okay… For me, it wasn’t an instant classic by any stretch but it did generate enough interest to merit a sequel. Hopefully one with robot vs monster battles you can actually see. Perhaps during the day? The long gestating sequel has seen several production delays but now we finally have a new title and director, Steven S. DeKnight. (Daredevil, Spartacus, Smallville) Bring on the Kaiju!
13. Deadpool 2
Deadpool arrived in 2016 and surprised everyone earning nearly 800 million worldwide. It was quickly announced that the sequel would feature more of the Merc with the Mouth AND fan favorite character Cable. Recently the project lost director Tim Miller and even spurred a petition to sign Quentin Tarantino. I doubt Quentin will direct Deadpool 2 but they need to find someone quick. Fox’s X-Men Universe needs Deadpool more than ever.
12. The Flash
The Flash TV series has definitively proven that there is an audience for the Scarlet Speedster. Yet development has stalled several times with two directors leaving the project citing ‘creative differences’. Part of this can be attributed to DC’s scramble to right the ship after Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad received dismal scores from critics and fans. Thankfully those films still performed well enough financially to justify the continuation of DC’s extended universe. This film will definitely happen. But will we see it in 2018? Or will it be replaced by… The Batman? Perhaps?
11. Ready Player One
Steven Spielberg is directing a dystopian fantasy about 80s video games… Based on the incredibly popular book by Ernest Cline, this has all the makings of something special.
10. Ant-Man and the Wasp
Unfortunately, Ant-Man is one of my least favorite Marvel movies. Right alongside Thor and The Incredible Hulk. All three are decent films I just didn’t connect with them as much as other MCU offerings. My opinions on the character changed when Marvel released Captain America: Civil War. It proved Ant-Man definitively belongs in the MCU. The sequel, bolstered by the debut of The Wasp, has all the freedom in the world to expand Ant-Man’s tiny world!
9. Tomb Raider
The original Tomb Raider movies starring Angelina Jolie sucked. There… I said it. However, thanks to two highly successful video games, the once dormant franchise has risen again. Rise of the Tomb Raider (Xbox One, PS4, PC) was a fantastic game I played until I achieved 100% completion. The extremely talented Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex-Machina) has stepped in to fill the role of Lara Croft but this production still has a problem: It’s a video game adaptation…
8. Jurassic World 2
I don’t think anyone saw the monumental success of Jurassic World coming. That doesn’t change the fact that 1.6 billion dollars makes the sequel fourth highest grossing film of all time. Jurassic World set up a lot of plot threads that the filmmakers can carry forward. The team behind the next adventure have also promised the film will deal with animal cruelty. One thing is for sure, this franchise has the attention of the world again.
7. The Predator
I’m skeptical AND excited for this reboot directed by Shane Black. I just can’t decide which emotion will influence my level of anticipation for this film. The last few ‘Predator’ movies were garbage. But this is finally the reboot/sequel we’ve always wanted. Directed by one of the most talented filmmakers of all time! Okay… Excited it is!

6. The Incredibles 2
Brad Bird returns to direct the follow up to one the best superhero movies of all time. Live action or animated. Over the years, Pixar has delivered worthy sequels to Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and to a lesser extent, Cars… It’s taken a long time for The Incredibles franchise to finally get a sequel and I have high hopes it will be amazing.
With respect to DC’s other solo superhero franchises (Wonder Woman, The Flash etc…) Aquaman is by far the most intriguing. Director James Wan (Furious 7, Saw) is more than capable of delivering cutting edge underwater effects. He’s certainly capable of dealing with the issues plaguing DC slate of poorly rated films. My only fear is that we will get minimal underwater screen time for budgetary reasons.
4. Black Panther
Black Panther was a fantastic addition to Captain America: Civil War. It was the perfect way to introduce a brand new character into the MCU. Now T’Challa gets his own film and we get to explore Wakanda and all the mysteries within.
3. Han Solo: A Star Wars Story
It’s hard not get excited about a new Star Wars movie but this one is… Interesting? I can’t say I’m on board with the concept. I’ll reserve judgement for now. How long do you think it will be before we get some original Star Wars spinoffs featuring all new characters and worlds? Universe expanding type stuff.
1. The Avengers: Infinity War
The big one. The biggest superhero movie of all time. The culmination of a decade of storytelling. Thanos is coming and it will take all of Earth’s mightiest heroes and probably a cosmic hero or two as well. Infinity War will also be the first feature film shot entirely in IMAX format. This film will be an event unlike anything we’ve ever seen before! I can’t handle it…
