Amazing Animated Short Film – Majora’s Mask: Terrible Fate
I absolutely adored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora’s Mask on the Nintendo 64. They are incredible experiences I still play from time to time to this day. I often think about what a live action or animated adaptation of Zelda would be like. There is such a wealth of mythology and a history of tales that spans decades.
Recently, rumors broke that Nintendo was entertaining the idea of producing films and television shows based on their most popular properties. The Legend of Zelda immediately rose to the top of every fans list. It certainly tops mine. There was even a rumor that Netflix wanted to travel to Hyrule and bring Link’s adventures to life. Sadly, we haven’t heard much about any project involving Nintendo.
But that didn’t stop the talented artists at EmberLab from creating a beautiful short film based on the series. Majora’s Mask: Terrible Fate serves as a prequel to Majora’s Mask focusing on the Skull Kid’s discovery of the mask and his ensuing possession.
It’s a gorgeous film featuring tons of fantastic references to the N64 classic.
Adapting this franchise into a successful film or television show will be extremely difficult as it presents numerous challenges. (A main character who doesn’t speak perhaps?) This short film proves there are limitless possibilities.
Will we ever get a Legend of Zelda movie or a Netflix series? Forgive the pun but time will tell. In the meantime, we took a shot at plotting out a 10 episode adaptation of Ocarina of Time. You can check it out by clicking the image below.
