I’m Curious About The New Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer
Marvel is usually pretty good with the trailers but I don’t know if we needed this one. It feels like they recut trailer 1 & 2 and added 3,4 new moments to freshen things up. I’m hoping the marketing department were in a tough spot. You don’t want to reveal too much but you also need to keep the film in people’s minds as the release date approaches.
What I found interesting about this trailer is the absence of Peter’s home made suit.
A big part of the film’s marketing has focused on Peter’s need to impress Tony Stark. Enough that he screws up and forces Stark to take away his technologically advanced suit. It was a central element in Homecoming’s second trailer. Personally, I’m not a fan of the ‘take the suit away before getting it back in the third act’ story. I’m hoping removing that focus means we won’t spend an hour in the middle of the film with a ‘lesser’ Spider-Man.
If this were a Spider-Man origin story we would spend an hour in the beginning watching him learn his powers, create a suit etc… Shifting these plot threads to the middle of the movie still seems odd considering Spider-Man (and his suit) were already established in Captain America: Civil War.
Is Tony going to realize he was wrong and give it back? Will Peter Parker steal the suit? What do either of those choices say about their characters?
That small gripe aside, I’m still looking forward to this film. I’m glad they didn’t spoil more action set pieces in this trailer but since it doesn’t give us anything new, my hype level remains the same.
What do you think?
