Michael Scofield Is Back… Behind Bars In New Prison Break Trailer
Michael Scofield Is Back... Behind Bars...
[Prison Break Seasons 1-4 and movie spoilers ahead]
I consider the first season of Prison Break to be one of the finest single seasons of television ever produced. I absolutely watching Scofield plot his escape from Fox River Penitentiary in order to save his brother. It was suspenseful, it was compelling and it was like nothing else on television.
Then the second season premiered… I highly enjoyed the first few episodes of season two because it successfully tied up loose ends from season one. An epilogue of sorts… And then the wheels fell off. It became clear early in that sophomore season that being confined to a prison is what made the show so successful. So they went back to the well and placed Michael behind bars in Panama in season three. The escape from Sona was okay but nothing compared to the brilliance of season one.
I’m going to skip season 4 and the movie that followed because that wasn’t Prison Break. It was a heist show that made giant logic leaps trying desperately to expand the series’ mythology. Since the show was cancelled in 2009, I’ve watched the entire first season on 4 separate occasions. (I was in heaven when it popped up on Netflix.) I’ll be watching it again in the weeks leading up to the Prison Break revival/event series in 2017.
We finally have a trailer for the rebooted(?) series and I have to say… I’m a little skeptical? Cautiously optimistic? It kind of feels like we’re back in Sona (Season 3) all over again. But I’m willing to give a shot. Prison Break is at it’s best when Michael has a plan but this trailer makes him seem helpless.
How will they explain Scofield’s death? Did ‘The Company’ step in and fake the entire thing? Did they do it so they could lock him away without his family’s knowledge? Was this the Company’s final revenge? Did Scofield sacrifice his life to spare his family a life of running?
There are enough questions to keep fans interested including why he is in prison AGAIN. A whole bunch of familiar faces have returned and I’m hoping the show finds new life next Winter. I would love another Season 1. What will happen once they break Scofield out… again. Will this be the happy ending fans wanted for Michael?
We’ll find out when the new season of Prison Break premieres in early 2017.
