Mission Impossible: Fallout Trailer Says What We Were All Thinking

Mission: Impossible (1996) – An American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization.

In other words: Ethan is believed to be a rogue agent and must run from his own organization while defeating the real bad guys.

Mission: Impossible II (2000) – A secret agent is sent to Sydney, to find and destroy a genetically modified disease called “Chimera”.

In other words: Ethan must defeat a rogue agent.

Mission: Impossible III (2006) – Agent Ethan Hunt comes into conflict with a dangerous and sadistic arms dealer who threatens his life and his fiancé in response.

In other words: Ethan is believed to be a rogue agent and must run from his own organization while defeating the real bad guys.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) – The IMF is shut down when it’s implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization’s name.

In other words: Ethan is believed to be a rogue agent and must run from his own organization while defeating the real bad guys.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) – Ethan and team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF.

In other words: Ethan is believed to be a rogue agent and must run from his own organization while defeating the real bad guys.

You get the idea.  A lot of the Mission: Impossible plot lines revolve around some type of rogue agent on the run.  That doesn’t mean I don’t like the M:I movies.  I actually love most of them.  Rough ranking 3,2,5,4,1…  I think they are fantastic and fun adventure movies.

What I love about this trailer is how well it pokes fun at the very tropes the franchise is built on.  I’m hoping they’ll turn the formula on it’s head.  They’ve also raised the stakes personally for Ethan.  Something they haven’t really done since J.J Abrams’ Mission: Impossible III.

There is a slight hint of ‘this is just more of the same’ but this trailer does just enough to make it one of my most anticipated summer movies of the year!
