Top 10 Moments: The Expendables 2
It isn’t much of a surprise that there was an Expendables 2. There are so many generic action stories yet to be told, and when Sly is at the head of the pack there’s an even greater chance of a series. (Rambo. Rocky. Escape Plan….?)
That’s fine with us, as it’s always fun to see these action stars of years past come back out for another romp.
Here are the Top 10 Moments from The Expendables 2.
10. Dolph Lundgren
You have to admit, Lundgren provides some of the better lighter moments throughout the movie. One of the best ones is his attempt at getting Maggie’s attention through a series of grunts. And then once he finally has her attention, he totally blanks at anything meaningful to say. He’s a complete joy to watch throughout.
9. Village Defense
A solid shoot-em up, complete with Christmas lashing out from beneath his religious robes.
8. Christmas vs. #2
Obviously Barney and Vilain are the leaders of their respective groups, leaving Christmas and Hector as the right-hand guys. This match was set-up from the beginning. It was only a matter of time before these two slugged it out.
7. Trench Rescue
A pretty solid opener to the flic! Can’t say Trench ending up being the hostage was anything we saw coming. The rides Barney and his boys are sporting could almost live in a Mad Max universe.
6. Airport Shootout
The guys get to let loose in this shootout, as well as banter lines back and forth to each other. It’s all in good fun. Except for the ones getting their butts kicked.
5. I’m Back!
At this point there is pretty much a Rolodex of dialogue Arnold says in movies these days. This one is near the top.
4. Smart Car
A) It’s a Smart Car. Those things are funny enough.
B) Arnold rips the entire door off. Fantastic.
3. Meeting Mr. Van Damme
Having Van Damme’s character named “Vilain” isn’t exactly the height of subtlety, but it certainly applies. Right away we are shown that this guy isn’t someone to be messed with and doesn’t fool around. He means business. He also likes to wear his sunglasses both inside AND out. So automatically that makes him even more threatening. Vision care be damned!
2. The Lone Wolf
Chuck Freakin’ Norris. There isn’t really much more to say. A great source of humor and fun in his small appearances.
1. Sly vs. Van Damme
Yeah, this fight isn’t as good as it could have been back in the 1980’s/90’s when these two combatants were in their prime, but hey…that could go for this entire franchise. What counts is these two still bring it, and it is a worthy showdown to wrap up The Expendables 2.
