Top 50 Star Trek Characters – #8 Benjamin Sisko
Benjamin Sisko commanded Deep Space Nine, eventually reaching the rank of Captain. He was also the Emissary to the Prophets, the Bajoran Gods.
Sisko was also the man in charge when Star Trek went to war, basically for the first time in the tv series format. Never before had Star Trek had an extended arc dealing with war and the effects it has on people, and he certainly seemed like the right man for the job. A brave and smart man, he understood that you go where you are sent. A chain of command needs to be followed, whether you like it or not.
When Sisko first arrived to DS9, he had no interest in being there, nor was he overly thrilled about being dubbed a religious figure to the Bajoran people. Throughout the series however, he would grow to love both his post and his title.
Sisko’s most important relationship was with his son, Jake. The love and bond felt between these two characters was palpable, and portrayed perfectly on screen.
One of the most honorable characters in the franchise, Captain Sisko was the perfect man for the job Starfleet assigned him.
